Making the right choice can be a difficult decision when it comes to website hosting services. The number of hosting companies to choose from is actually staggering. In addition to that when you start to compare the packages offered by different hosting companies a person can get lost if they don’t know what they are doing.

What you want from a hosting company.

Customer Service that is Top Notch

The main aspect of customer service is availability. If the host you are considering is not open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days per year you should move on to one that is. The reason for this is fairly simple. If your site goes down Friday evening after business hours, you will not feel good about having to wait until Monday morning to be able to have someone at the hosting company take a look at it.

The Host Should be Reliable

That is a pretty tough standard to check when every single hosting company on the planet will tell you they have 99.9% up time. Of course they will not say anything negative on their own website about their services. What you should do before settling in on a host is take a couple minutes on your favorite search engine like Bing, Yahoo or Google and do a few searches. See if there are any customers complaining about the services of that particular host.

Now any large company will have a few complaints and that is to be expected, but an over abundance of complaints is a huge red flag. Look for customers complaining about their sites being offline a lot, problems with their email or other issues. Trying to spot particular areas where problems are recurring.

Cost is Always a Factor

There are some cases where it is justifiable to pay a little more for your hosting. When a company has excellent customer service, a great history of up time and reliability and nice features attached with their hosting packages. Companies like that can justifiably charge a little more because when it comes to hosting, you want reliability and service.

On the flip side of that coin you should not be paying over $40 per month for a shared hosting account. That is much more than you need to pay or should be paying because there are good hosting companies out available for less. In cases where you are getting additional features, bandwidth or in cases of outstanding customer service paying a little more may be expected and justified but it should be comparable to other providers.

When you are starting up a website, finding the right hosting company is a crucial step in the process. Changing hosting companies after the fact because you don’t like the service you are receiving can be painful. A person is far better off getting it right out of the gates after doing a little research to determine what should be looked for, what the needs are and what host is in a position to meet or exceed your needs.
